For National Poison Prevention Week, American Association of Poison Control Centers Warns That Children Act Fast, and So Do Poisons

Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) March 19, 2012

The American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) is cautioning parents, grandparents and caregivers that poisonings children act fast, and so do poisons, according to Debbie Carr, AAPCC executive director.

?About half of all poison exposures involve children younger than 6, most often occurring when parents are busy preparing meals. Poisonings also occur when the normal routine changes ? during holidays or while moving, visiting or traveling,? Carr said. ?The 50th anniversary of National Poison Prevention Week is the perfect time to stress the importance of poison-proofing your home to keep your children and grandchildren safe.?

Since 1962, the third week in March has been designated National Poison Prevention Week and has focused national attention on the dangers of poisonings and how to prevent them. America?s 57 poison centers are committed to safeguarding the health and well-being of every American through poison prevention and free, confidential, expert medical services. Poison centers respond to calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week in order to help those who have been exposed to toxic substances.

In 2010, U.S. poison centers answered more than 3.9 million calls, including nearly 2.4 million calls about human exposures to poisons. In children, about 40 percent of poisonings involve medicines; the other 60 percent of poisonings in children involve products such as plants, cleaning supplies, cosmetics, pesticides, paints and solvents. Poisoning is the fourth leading cause of death among children, with peak incidences occurring between ages 1 and 3.

The experts at America?s 57 poison centers urge parents, grandparents and caregivers to take the following steps to keep children safe from poisonings:

Inspect your home and garage to make sure medicines, cleaning products, pesticides and fertilizers are stored up high, away and out of sight of children.
Tell children what medicine is and why you must be the one to give it to them. Never call medicine ?candy? to get them to take it.
Don?t leave medicines or vitamins on counters, window sills, bedside tables or the refrigerator top.
Take your medicine where children can?t see you; they may try to imitate you.
Teach children to always ask an adult before eating, drinking or touching anything.
Keep cleaning products and household chemicals in their original containers with their original labels intact.
Keep batteries out of a child?s reach. Call your local poison center right away if a child swallows a battery.
Keep magnetic toys and other magnetic items away from small children. Call your local poison center right away if you think a child has swallowed a magnet.
Know the name of all household plants in your home; remove any poisonous plants from your house and yard.
Remember that child-resistant is not child-proof. Layer the protection: re-seal and lock up, out of sight and reach.

The AAPCC supports the nation?s 57 poison centers in their efforts to treat and prevent drug, consumer product, animal, environmental and food poisoning. Members staff the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222 that provides free, confidential, expert medical advice 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year from toxicology specialists, including nurses, pharmacists, physicians and poison information providers. In addition, the AAPCC maintains the only poison information and surveillance database in the United States, providing real-time monitoring of unusual poisoning patterns, chemical exposures and other emerging public health hazards. The AAPCC partners with federal agencies such as EPA, HRSA and the CDC, as well as private industry.

Now More Than Ever Consumers Need to Know Their Rights When Dealing with Debt Collectors – Learn How from American Financial Solutions

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) February 27, 2012

According to an article posted on InsideArm, a news source for accounts receivable management businesses, debt collection agencies are suffering financially (Lunsford, 2012). This is due to having to reduce the rates they charge other businesses to collect debts on their behalf. But for consumers turning to American Financial Solutions for help with bills, this latest news does not garner much sympathy.

?We are seeing and talking to many people who already dealing with reduced wages and an increased cost of living. Diverting money out of their monthly budget for collections is not feasible,? said Becky House, Education Director for American Financial Solutions. ?People are being told they cannot make smaller affordable payments and, in many cases the collection agency is demanding payment in full over the phone.?

According to House, the loss of net income to debt collection agencies may be partly to blame for the increase in the number of demands consumers are receiving on old, outdated and sometimes even false debt. Rules about how long a business has to collect on a debt vary from state to state, but there are ways consumers can educate and protect themselves.

First, there are two timelines to be aware of when dealing with debt collections. These are how long an item can remain on a credit report and how long a creditor has to take legal action in order to force someone to pay.

Debt reporting on a credit report

Information may remain on a credit report for seven years from the date of the last activity. The date of the last activity is generally the last time a payment was made on the account. The seven year clock begins ticking six months after that, provided no more payments were made.

How long a debt can be collected

The time a creditor has to sue someone over a debt varies according to the state in which they reside. If a creditor or collection agency successfully sues over the debt, they can force a consumer to pay by garnishing (taking) wages and even freezing bank accounts. To find out the time limits in your state, contact the state Attorney General?s Office.

Restarting the credit report or debt collection time frame

Collectors can contact someone about a debt that is expired (or too old for legal action), but they cannot use the legal system to force repayment. It is critical to be aware of the creditor or collection agencies limitations when discussing debts. In some states, making one partial payment may restart the clock and allow the collection agency to take legal action or continue to report an item on a credit report.

When an account is sold or turned over to another business to collect, the time frames for remaining on the credit report or for legal action do not change.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act was created to help protect consumers from unfair, deceptive or abusive acts by debt collectors. Reviewing this law can help consumers understand steps to take when dealing with a debt collector.

If someone is having difficulty repaying debts, considering debt consolidation of collection accounts or having difficulty with a debt collection agency they should contact a non-profit credit counseling agency. Certified credit counselors can help develop debt repayment options and strategies. They can also provide best practices when dealing with debt collectors.

Remember, when managing finances, understanding options can save people time, money and stress.

Made By Moms For Moms – HadleyStilwell’s Fleece Lounging and Co-Sleeping Top Now Produced by American MoJo

Seattle, Washington (PRWEB) December 07, 2011

HadleyStilwell (http://www.hadleystilwell.com), designer of unique tailored and professional clothing for breastfeeding mothers, is pleased to announce that American MoJo is now manufacturing the Fleece Lounging and Co-Sleeping Top. The Polartec stretch fleece lounging top doubles as a co-sleeping shirt for easy breastfeeding while keeping mom’s top half warm during the cool months. Originally designed for co-sleeping and lounging at home, the fleece top is also a perfect layer to discreetly nurse outdoors, making it a versatile gift this holiday season.

American MoJo (http://www.getamericanmojo.com) is a social venture that addresses the issues facing poverty-stricken single mothers by creating sustainable employment opportunities in the apparel manufacturing sector. By partnering with MoJo on fleece top production, HadleyStilwell is contributing towards providing these mothers with liveable salaries, a chance at a career path, and freedom from the prohibitive daycare and health care costs that keep so many mothers from re-entering the work force and being able to support themselves and the families that need them. A Fleece Lounging and Co-Sleeping Top is a gift that truly gives back to other families.

“HadleyStilwell strives to empower mothers, knowing that feeling good about yourself directly impacts being able to give to your family. Here’s a chance to enhance that good feeling by purchasing elegant, well-made clothing for your own breastfeeding needs that helps lift a fellow mother,” says HadleyStilwell founder Holli Harris. “Imagine facing all the usual stresses of motherhood while also worrying about keeping a roof over your head, providing stability for your children, and having the right role models around. MoJo is doing amazing work providing a pathway out of poverty for these moms and their children and I’m so proud to be working with them.”

Harris’s tenure on the board of the microfinance organization Washington CASH in Seattle (http://www.washingtoncash.org) makes her unusually understanding about what it takes to help people raise themselves up out of poverty through entrepreneurship and a supportive community. “Holli came to us because she is dedicated to helping women and promoting the entrepreneurial spirit in women,” says Cara Aley, President and COO of American MoJo. “HadleyStilwell customers can relate to what our employees face in their lives and feel a sense of pride that they’re helping to employ a fellow mom and provide them with essential services.”

The Fleece Lounging and Co-Sleeping Top is made from a durable, machine-washable (of course!) stretch Polartec gridded fleece with an inside layer of wicking jersey that is smooth against mom’s skin while baby rests against the soft fleece. The wonderful lines draw significant interest from non-breastfeeding moms, and from women who aren’t even moms, who love that the design flatters every shape and size. For Fall 2011, the top will be available in Sage, Charcoal, and Royal Blue gridded designs.

“I LOVE your fleece tops! This is my 5th baby and I have been cold when nursing the first four in the winter since there were no warm nursing tops. Thanks for fixing this problem!” – Amanda

“Co-sleeping and being warm CAN co-exist! I can’t tell you how much of a difference it makes to my own sleep to remain warm when the little one wants her milk. I’ve been craving a lightweight sleeping top that I can nurse in without being too exposed, and this top has definitely met the bill.” – Jane

A video about HadleyStilwell’s collaboration with MoJo is available at http://youtu.be/Iah_nDMWgdg. The entire HadleyStilwell collection is available online at http://www.hadleystilwell.com. More information about HadleyStilwell can also be found online, or by calling 1-888-872-9885.

About HadleyStilwell

Launched in February 2009, the HadleyStilwell collection is for breastfeeding, working mothers who are looking for well-tailored pieces that integrate with their existing wardrobes. With just a quick change of accessories, women can achieve their professional look for the boardroom, without sacrificing comfort when they’re relaxing at home on the weekends. HadleyStilwell clothes are the wardrobe staples women reach for – from the new, nursing mom who needs quick access to breasts for pumping, to the mother of young children who may find herself frequently running from desk to after-school activities each week.

Named after the daughter of founder Holli Harris, HadleyStilwell’s designs reflect Harris’s goal of helping new mothers breastfeed longer by minimizing the challenge of pumping or nursing. Harris aims to empower women to succeed at both career and motherhood.

To this end, the HadleyStilwell website also includes a section called “Milk Notes,” which provides advice ranging from managing milk supply to managing career as a new mother, including a chart of the breastfeeding phases; tips on presenting the business case for breastfeeding to your boss; and the art of pumping in a car.

Visitors to the site can also sign up for weekly Milk Tweets via Twitter, through which Holli shares vetted sources for new mother information.

HadleyStilwell was also recently awarded a prestigious 2010 Eileen Fisher Business Grant for Entrepreneurs.

Even Through Foreclosure, There are Options to Reclaim the American Dream

Hollywood, Florida (PRWEB) November 17, 2011

We all know the obvious consequences of facing foreclosure. Losing a home, facing a deficiency judgment for the difference between the value of the home and the amount of the mortgage, and dealing with damaged credit are a few; but unfortunately there is so much more associated with this process than just finances. Emotionally, losing a home can be extremely difficult. Often times, people build up an array of dreams composed of all the good things they expect to happen in their home as they grow older. Feeling hopeless as one seemingly watches those hopes and dreams slowly slip away only adds to the emotional loss. Couple the financial and emotional loss with the newly released scientific research that reveals a rise in stress related physical ailments discussed in a recent New York Times article titled ?Foreclosures are Killing Us,? and it?s easy to see that foreclosure is not something to be taken lightly. However, Rosen & Rosen is releasing information about a strategy that can help give homeowner’s options.

There have been several stories in the news about so called loan modification experts who will either do nothing but take a person’s money in exchange for a slew of ?too good to be true? promises, or who will, possibly in good faith but still unwisely so, submit a person’s private financial information to a bank numerous times hoping the bank will respond to a plea for help. The National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA), a consortium of 220 private, non-profit fair housing organizations recently found that the loan modification industry is “rife with corrupt practices.” The FDIC has even published a booklet about foreclosure rescue and loan modification scams subtitled “If It’s Too Good to be True, It Probably Is.” Also, according to the Florida Bar “complaints are pouring”, “with four times more cases pending…” as a result of foreclosure fraud by lenders’, servicers’ and supposedly pro-borrowers’ attorneys. The overwhelming and “near universal agreement that the [federal government?s loan modification] program has failed to meet its goals, as stated by the Neil Barofsky, Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, only serves to highlight the fact that an approach which relies solely on corresponding with banks to ask for a modification is unfortunately rarely feasible. Moreover, attorney Evan M. Rosen from Rosen & Rosen advises his clients that divulging their financial history is not only irrelevant to any legal issue at hand but it is also typically not in one’s best interest to do so. The larger concern, as Mr. Rosen states, is that servicers? repeated requests for financial information under the guise of a loan modification might instead just be a fishing expedition to see if there are any assets which would be recoverable in a deficiency.

However, there is hope. Thanks to a handful of highly trained, extremely hard-working and dedicated litigation lawyers, Rosen & Rosen wants homeowners to know that they can fight back and with very fair fee structures, they can do so for far less than one might think. Lawyers like those at Rosen & Rosen and others are seizing upon the opportunity left behind as a by-product of the banks? rush to profit both when these mortgages were formed and now as they are falling apart. Through the application of leverage resulting from numerous legitimate legal and ethical defenses, while simultaneously educating the lender how they would be far better off in a workout than they will be post foreclosure; with one of these highly trained professionals, a person has a chance to substantially alter their circumstances. It can be a new day in court for homeowners armed with the right representation. However, it is important to thoroughly review a lawyers credentials before before jumping in with anyone.

Foreclosure defense and all its inter-related topics are part of a burgeoning new area of law. In addition to exploring all possible legal defenses and counterclaims that can be used in protecting a home, there are also several alternative actions a well-trained attorney can help with in order to possibly eliminate liability to the bank and/or prevent them from obtaining a deficiency judgment.

Be sure to ask for a lawyer?s credentials before signing up, see if they offer a free consultation and during that consultation ask questions to make sure they are well versed in real estate law, bankruptcy, civil procedure and all of the various state and federal consumer protection statutes. With the forthright, aggressive and well-informed approach from a true legal professional, a homeowner has a greater chance of saving their home, getting their finances in order, and getting back on track to reclaiming a piece of the American dream!

For more information on Foreclosure Defense, Debt Defense, Bankruptcy and more, please contact the author Evan M. Rosen at erosen(at)rosenandrosen(dot)com, or (954)981-1852. Rosen & Rosen has been designated a debt relief agency under Federal law. In addition to other legal services, they help people file for bankruptcy relief under the Bankruptcy Code.
